FAQs
STUDENTS
-
Calling is the sense that God is personally inviting you to dedicate your life and gifts to His work through vocational ministry—serving the church, reaching communities, or taking the gospel to the nations.
-
No. There are many ways to serve outside the traditional pastor and missionary roles you’ve traditionally experienced. We hope this process helps you clarify where God is directing you.
-
While this could be different for each person, we’ve targeted 15-20 minutes daily to 90-minutes weekly with a monthly mentor check-in and ministry engagement. About 6 hours a month is a comfortable plan.
-
No. while we celebrate your sense that God is stirring in your heart, we want to provide time and community for you to confirm, clarify, and step into how God is directing.
-
You’ll create a next‑steps plan (education, internship, residency) with your mentor and church.
PARENTS & GUARDIANS
-
We lean heavily on the local church to match your student with a quality mentor. Often the student requests a particular mentor—this could be a current youth worker, an older member in the church, or even you as a parent.
-
We encourage you to stay connected to your student’s development and progress. Studies continue to confirm you as the parent are critical and formational to these discoveries. We have linked several resources to help you navigate an ongoing conversation with your student around purpose, calling, and evangelism.
-
The platform (all the courses) is free. You could experience some expenses for books or materials, but we are working to keep these to a minimum.
-
Every student will be impacted differently, and you best understand your student. We feel the workload in AY Called in manageable. We designed this as a regular rhythm of 15-20 minutes per day of engagement and a monthly connection with a mentor.
-
No. We designed this to help guide your student more clearly confirm and clarify how God is directing with an emphasis on stepping into ministry. We believe this clarity greatly impacts their formation and decisions but aren’t written as college courses.
PASTORS & LEADERS
-
Yes. We are strong believers that development in community is valuable to young discerning students. This can also help with the mentor need. You might have a person that can mentor two or three students.
-
Sometimes you might have a person willing to mentor multiple students. We have experienced some churches that have a young adult considering their own call walking through discovering at the same time. The mentor is most valuable as an encouraging, processing person, and is a safe place versus someone that has it all together providing step by step direction. A faithful, available adult is a great place to start.

The Alliance Youth office wants to encourage and support you, so we are available to listen, coach, or equip you to lead and shepherd.
